Hulu’s newest true-crime miniseries, Candy, is extending the true-crime genre. The show is a five-episode look at Candy Montgomery’s friendship with Betty Gore, which evolved into an adulterous murder. Betty’s gruesome murder in Texas in the 1980s followed a friendship between the two pious church women.
Hulu’s Candy Release Date, Cast, And More
Candy is portrayed as a murderess in the show, yet Candy is cleared of all charges after pleading self-defense. A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, written by two of the show’s producers, describes the events surrounding Candy Montgomery’s death.
Betty Gore and Candy Montgomery were well-known in their church for being close friends and active members. Candy was, however, involved in an adulterous affair with Betty’s husband for over a year in the late 1970s. Betty was found bludgeoned to death at her house on June 13th, 1980, when her husband was away at work.
When Betty’s husband acknowledged having an affair with Candy, the police’s suspicions immediately turned to her. Candy was quickly apprehended after her fingerprints were discovered at the crime site, and she was the last person to see Betty before she died.
Candy professed innocence at first, but once proof arose, she immediately admitted to murdering Betty, claiming self-defense. According to Candy’s account, Betty brandished the ax and demanded that Candy stay away from her husband. Betty would not let Candy leave and eventually swung the weapon at her. I raised it and smacked her, and Candy was found not guilty despite the prosecution’s inability to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the offense was not committed in self-defense.
The trial does not appear to be a major emphasis of the program. Rather, it appears to emphasize the characters’ lives and interpersonal interactions, as well as how such a passionate crime may happen to anyone. The trailer for the show makes all of this clear.
Trailer Analysis: Candy
In the trailer, Betty Gore pays a moving homage to her closest friend, Candy Montgomery, in the trailer. Your generosity, kindness, and friendship have all touched me deeply. You’re nothing but a sweetheart. Candy is shown as Betty’s champion & cheerleader, despite the opposition of the other mothers.
The trailer then takes a dramatic turn, showing Candy admitting to having an affair with an unnamed man. One of Candy’s pals screams and The man’s identity is swiftly exposed. Betty’s husband exclaimed, “Don’t I deserve more?” Candy asks as she lies sleeplessly in bed next to her spouse, the traditional sad housewife.
Inquiring as to why Candy is no longer present, which is intercut with an image of Candy closing a door and whispering, She knows, in a low tone. The teaser then turns to what we assume is the miniseries’ climactic scene, immediately before Betty’s death, as Candy knocks on her door with a forced and artificial smile.
The rest of the trailer shows Candy unraveling, feigning emotion and ignorance of the truth, erasing evidence, and comforting others. In the closing scene, Candy is interrogated by police officers, with one officer pointing out her several damaged fingernails. We see a small expression of panic in her eyes as she clasps her hands together and turns aside as she smoothly plays it off.
Candy Hulu Jessica Biel
Candy Montgomery stars Jessica Biel as the primary heroine. She began performing as a child, most famously on the television show 7th Heaven, and has worked in the entertainment industry for the majority of her life. Candy will be her first major role in around five years.

She, like Jessica Biel, has been acting for most of her life, with notable appearances including one of the stepsisters in Cinderella story Forever one of Phyllis Schlafly’s conservative activist minions on Hulu.
